EIDD visits Finland
Continuing their tour of eastern Scandinavia, EIDD President Pete Kercher and Vice-President Finn Petrén met today with Ilona Törmikoski, Past President of the Industrial Designers Association in Ornamo, Europe’s oldest professional designers’ association, and Lena Strömberg, Secretary General of Ornamo, for talks about establishing the long-overdue permanent Finnish organisational presence in EIDD.
The working lunch part of the meeting was also attended by Paivi Tahkokallio, a previous President of EIDD and now responsible for the Finnish section of the European e-Accessibility network.
In very fruitful discussions held in the Ornamo headquarters in Helsinki, the representatives of EIDD and Ornamo agreed that closer ties make good sense for everyone concerned.
The group then held further talks with Prof. Helena Hyvönen, Dean of the School of Design at the University of Art and Design Helsinki, before rounding off the day with a visit to the University’s Rector, one-time member of the EIDD Board of Directors, Prof. Yrjö Sotamaa, who also expressed his support for closer ties between Finland and EIDD.
