EIDD General Assembly in Tallinn 28 May 2011
This year’s European Design for All Summit takes place in Tallinn, European Capital of Culture 2011. It promises to be an exciting one.
At its Extraordinary General Meeting in Riga last October EIDD Design for All Europe made some major changes to its statutes. The old model of an Executive Committee of five members and a huge Board of Directors with one member from each country, plus a number of Directors at Large, simply did not fit a rapidly growing federation any more. The current Board and Executive Committee will therefore cease to exist at the General Assembly on 28 May, and will be replaced by a new Executive Board.
The EIDD General Assembly will be combined with a number of events and side events, the major ones being a workshop and a conference.
Tallinn is European Capital of Culture 2011. Last year the Estonian Association of Designers decided to use the momentum by launching an International project “Cities for All – Tallinn for All” in collaboration with the City of Tallinn and EIDD Design for All Europe, building on the experience of the City of Vilnius, European Capital of Culture 2009, from a similar collaboration with EIDD Design for All Europe and the Lithuanian Design Forum.
The Tallinn for All project started in September last year with an International students workshop, with acknowledged Design for All experts from EIDD member organisations in Italy, Spain and England as supervisors, and the first conference on the theme of “Cities for All – Tallinn for All”. The aim of the project is to bring about some concrete interventions in Tallinn’s built environment demonstrating what Design for All thinking and design skills can accomplish.
The workshop 26 May and the second International Conference “Cities for All – Tallinn for All” 27 May mark the midterm of the project. The final outcome and proposals will be presented at an exhibition within the framework of the European Innovation Festival and the Design Night in Tallinn 16-25 September 2011.
