Award to EIDD
EIDD – The European Institute for De-sign and Disability – is one of seven organisations to have received the Ron Mace Designing for the 21st Century Award.
The award is granted by Adaptive Environments, Halftheplanet and RERC at Buffalo (American accessibility and disability organisations) and by the Center for Universal Design, North Carolina, USA.
Elaine Ostroff and Valerie Fletcher of Adaptive Environments explain:
"Some of the reasons why EIDD was selected note that EIDD has had a great influence on Design for All throughout Europe. It is a young but very influential organisation within the European Union, with established organisations in 15 member countries. Each affiliated member organisation has a unique character that contributes to the overall development of inclu-sive design."
Jim Sandhu, Past President of EIDD, and Andrew Walker of EIDD’s Executive Committee received the award at the recent conference, held by Adaptive Environments.
