Annual Conferences
Every year, EIDD holds a major Annual Conference about one or more topics related to the theory and the practical application of Design for All.
In addition to its main themes of Design for All in Public Transport and Design for All in Education, the 2004 Annual Conference held in Stockholm also produced the EIDD Stockholm Declaration©, an intentionally brief, to-the-point explanation about the genesis and current meaning of the concept of Design for All. Held in Berlin in May 2005, the theme of the 2005 Annual Conference was “Culture for All”, investigating some of the many concrete and potential applications of Design for All in the field of culture. The Berlin Act, adopted at the end of the Conference, committed EIDD to repeat the theme on a four-yearly cycle (next edition in Linz in 2009). Read the Berlin Act here
The topic of the 2006 Annual Conference, held in Waterford, Ireland, on 18-19 May, was “Work for All”. In this case, the focus was on how Design for All can provide tools for enabling the immense diversity of humanity to take a productive part in the economy. The Conference ended with the adoption of the Waterford Convention. Read more about the Waterford Convention here
2007 was the year of “Tourism for All”. The conference held in the Milan Triennale on 28-29 June was designed to explore future directions of the tourism industry and explain the role to be played by Design for All, not only augmenting the right to leisure, but also facilitating the vitality of an industry of crucial importance to the GDP of many European countries and studying potential new applications. In 2008, EIDD Design for All Europe, celebrating its fifteenth anniversary, had chosen Stockholm as the venue for its Annual Conference. The selected theme was "Sustainable Design for All". In spite of the high patronage of Her Majesty Queen Silvia, the conference unfortunately had to be cancelled due to default of implied financial support.
